Company History: Founded by George Wood at the beginning of the 20th century, Wawa began as a dairy company delivering milk in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Wawa Dairy stood out against competitors by being the first unpasteurized milk certified safe for consumption by doctors and physicians.  After milk deliveries became obsolete and milk transitioned to a common grocery store item, Wawa opens its first Wawa Food Market in Folsom, Pennsylvania. Emerging into the retail business, they began offering food and drink items along with their line of dairy products. 

Less than ten years later, Wawa opened its 100th store in 1972 and 200th store in 1978. Today, more than 900 stores exist in six states on the East Coast and Washington D.C. Wawa is the third-largest retailer behind Acme and Shoprite in Greater Philadelphia and Pennsylvania areas. They sell varieties of their own food and drinks with locations offering gas services as well. Wawa quickly established itself as a competitor in the convenience store and retail business.
